The surroundings

Ruffré is five minutes away, Kaltern a quarter of an hour, Bolzano half an hour. A hiking trail leads straight from behind the chalets up to the Roen. In winter there is a small chairlift with ski hire just round the corner on the Mendel, good for beginners; for more, head to Meran 2000 or the Schwemmalm in the Ultental valley.

Getting there

By car to the Mendel Pass: from the north via the Bolzano Süd exit and Appiano, from the south via Egna/Ora and Lake Kaltern, from Merano via the Gampen Pass and Fondo. The chalets are a little hidden — you'll get the exact coordinates and a video for the last stretch before you arrive. To skip the hairpins, take the Mendel funicular: it runs about three times an hour from St. Anton near Kaltern and takes 13 minutes; from the pass it's a seven-minute walk. Bikes and dogs can come along.
